The deacon's ministry: meaning before rank
"Deacon" means servant - what does ministry mean in the Church's daily life today?
Service, not status
Since my ordination as a deacon in 1996 I have been learning that rank is responsibility: standing in the sanctuary is service to the people before it is an honour.
Ministry is wider than the altar
A Sunday school class, visiting the sick, helping someone in need, or even designing a post for the church page - all faces of one ministry.
Advice for a new servant
Start with what is in your hands and do not wait for the big assignment; faithfulness in little is the road to much.
